Megan Thiedeman, Bariatric Fitness Program Coordinator
Megan
Thiedeman joined the WeightWise Bariatric Program in August 2006. She
is responsible for developing, evaluating and implementing
individualized exercise programs for our patients. Additionally, she
administers all of the exercise assessments within our fitness
protocols and prescribes exercise routines based on assessment results
in order to maximize patient success. Prior to working for WeightWise,
Megan spent over six years in the U.S. Air Force with more than three
of those years as a university-level instructor/coach. Megan graduated
from the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science
degree in Behavioral Science/Psychology and played Division 1
basketball all four years. In 2005, she earned a Masters of Sports
Science degree from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne,
Alabama, and is currently working towards a dual master’s degree
emphasizing in sport fitness. Additionally, she holds the American
College of Sports Medicine Health/Fitness Instructor certification.
John Kinkead, Fitness Specialist
John Kinkead joined the WeightWise team in May of 2008. As a Fitness Specialist at WeightWise, John is involved in leading group exercise classes, in addition to conducting both individual and group training sessions. He is also responsible for the daily maintenance and upkeep of the fitness center. John graduated from Texas A&M Kingsville with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Kinesiology. He is currently working towards getting his fitness certification through the nationally recognized American College of Sports Medicine. Prior to joining WeightWise, John was a Substitute Teacher for the East Central Independent School District, where he taught a high school level Foundation of Fitness class. John enjoys helping people to the best of his abilities and hopes to use his educational background to help WeightWise patients meet their fitness goals.
Wendy Chapman, Exercise Physiologist
Wendy
Chapman joined WeightWise in March of 2007. She is responsible for
developing, evaluating and implementing individualized exercise
programs. Additionally, she administers all of the exercise assessments
within our fitness protocols and prescribes exercise routines based on
the assessment results to maximize patient success. Wendy received her
undergraduate degree in Management & Computer Information Systems
from Baylor University and later earned a Master’s of Science degree in
Kinesiology from Texas A & M University – Kingsville. She has also
earned certification through the American College of Sports Medicine as
a Health and Fitness instructor. Prior to coming to WeightWise, Wendy
served as an adjunct faculty member for Alamo Community College
District, teaching courses in walking/jogging, physical conditioning
and weight training. Though not being heavily involved with
sports/fitness early in life, Wendy claims to have developed an
“adult-onset” athlete mentality. Wendy hopes to help our patients by
bringing her educational background and personal experience with
fitness/exercise to the WeightWise Bariatric Program.
Darin Cabell, Master Exercise Physiologist
Darin
Cabell earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from
Illinois State University. Along with his health and fitness
background, Darin has worked as a youth pastor in Oklahoma and Texas as
well as studied guitar at Los Angeles Music Academy. After suffering a
pinched nerve in his neck while at music school, the desire to help
people in the health arena was rekindled. Darin especially enjoys
teaching corrective exercises that address core strength and balance
training. Darin and his wife Bethany are happy newlyweds, having
married in March of 2006.
Heather Nunley, Fitness Specialist
Heather Nunley has a Bachelors of Science degree in Health and Kinesiology from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Heather became a WeightWise employee in August 2007 after completing a 10-week undergraduate internship at the Foundation Fitness Center at Huebner from June through August 2007. Prior to working at WeightWise, Heather spent many years in the fitness industry. Right out of high school she competed in local amateur bodybuilding contests and competed in UTSA’s first Strongman Competition. As a Fitness Specialist, Heather is responsible for the daily maintenance and operation of the Foundation Fitness Center. Additionally, Heather will be involved in leading group exercise classes and educational lectures. As a Fitness Specialist, she will also conduct both individual and group personal training sessions. She is currently pursuing a Health and Fitness Specialist certification through American College of Sports Medicine.
WeightWise of Oklahoma City at Edmond
Somer Carey, Exercise Physiologist
Somer Carey is the lead exercise physiologist at the WeightWise Bariatric Program in Edmond, OK. She earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Science from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. In addition to her degree, she holds a National Academy of Sports Medicine Personal Trainer Certification and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Somer is responsible for administering fitness assessments and metabolic testing for surgical and medically managed weight loss patients. In addition, she prescribes them individualized cardio, strength and flexibility programs. Prior to joining Foundation Bariatric Hospital, Somer worked with special populations at Mercy Hospital in the fitness center collaborating with cardiac rehabilitation nurses to prescribe safe exercise to patients. In addition, she monitored the patients’ cardiac and blood pressure response during exercise. In her spare time, Somer enjoys wakeboarding, camping, snow skiing and anything outdoors.
Lauren Wilburn, Exercise Physiologist
On January 21, the Foundation Fitness Center of Edmond welcomed Lauren Wilburn as a new Exercise Physiologist to the WeightWise Bariatric Program™. Wilburn is a recent graduate from the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Okla., with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology.
In the summer of 2007, Wilburn completed her internship at Wellspring New York, a weight loss camp for young women. Wilburn served as a lower camp counselor and an activities instructor. As part of her internship she designed an exercise booklet that campers could take home so they could continue exercising in hopes to achieve their fitness goals. She is also a Special Olympics basketball coach in the fall for Team Edmond.
Wilburn is excited to help launch a group exercise program for the Foundation Fitness Center in the WeightWise of Edmond facility. She is acclimating well to her new surroundings and is quickly finding this opportunity to work with patients an extremely rewarding position.
