Patient support groups are an important aspect of ongoing care. The group setting provides an informal social network, which has been proven to play a role in the mitigation of stress and the handling of dilemmas unique to the group.

Support Group Objectives and Guidelines:

  • The support group provides a vehicle to assist obese individuals in meeting their needs for social support. Patients that participate often feel a sense of commitment, belonging and acceptance by sharing information and common experiences.
  • WeightWise support groups will be open to pre and post-operative patients. We mandate that any new potential patient attend at least one support group meeting prior to their surgery date.
  • WeightWise provides patients with tools to let their friends and family know about our program. Patient information packets will be available at these meetings for anyone interested.

Meeting Agenda

The formal meetings are scheduled for one hour and include new patient introductions, a formal presentation, a question and answer session and time for patients to share their experiences.
